About This Combined Course

The combined DSA and FMECA course is aimed at enhancing the knowledge of personnel who already work in the diving industry and equip them with the basic foundation necessary for auditing or FMECA consultancy or to work with auditors in a constructive sense as an auditee when the auditor visits the asset on which they are working.  In this way, the combined course extends the delegates working potential or enhances their present situation.

Historically diving system audits have been carried out as part of a semi routine or sporadic 'as required' process.  In today's industry there is an increasing requirement to manage high risk work activities and where the aim is for Health and Safety excellence by both contractors and clients. A stricter regime for compliance and verification of diving equipment, diving systems and their components are being implemented. The competence of the personnel who are involved in the assurance process has been identified by IMCA as a requirement for formal audit training needed as a means to demonstrate a level of competence suited to the field of auditing. This demonstration is more than the technical knowledge which is a pre-requisite, it includes understanding the assurance criteria along with the supporting documentation, interpretation and evaluation, communication and report writing skills. An auditor has to provide the work based on objective reasoning and intelligent analysis. Similarly, an FMECA practitioner has to consider equipment in an objective manner while also being suitably inquisitive.

NOTE: KBA are a leading diving system auditing service provider having audited more than 1500 systems since 2002. The course ‘builds on’ the experience gained by our company who use many auditors in a variety of different locations and facing any number of difficulties.  

While being mostly classroom based, there will be real life experience ‘Case Studies’ with regards to surface air diving, saturation diving and mobile portable diving system assurance audits.  The course is interactive and will involve group discussions and break-out work groups. Practical training consisting of a ‘sample audit’ item will provide the delegate with a taste of what is to be expected and allow questions to be raised while within the learning environment. Delegates will gain a clear understanding of how to implement the diving system assurance process, complete the report and deliverable expectations.

COURSE OVERVIEW

DIVING SYSTEM ASSURANCE - This four-day training will introduce industry personnel to the principles of the Diving System and equipment assurance requirements and processes. This will include a comprehensive review of IMCA diving assurance requirements and guidelines. The course has been designed to provide potential diving system assurance personnel with the academic competence required to understand and interpret the diving equipment requirements, along with a detailed understanding of the assurance structure and the methodology of conducting the assurance process.

FMECA AWARENESS - This one-day training will introduce industry personnel to the principles of Failure Mode, Effects and Criticality Analysis and provide an explanation as to the processes that may be followed. This will include a comprehensive review and discussion of what is meant by FMECA, the essential components, suggested level of detail, scope, complexity and options for the analysis. The course will further delve into areas of analysis, with the risk assessment and residual risk being ranked against set criteria.

An outline of the current diving industry stance from, Class, IOGP and IMCA as well as their similarities and differences. A great emphasis is placed on the use of the process along with other diving system assurance tools; however it is to take note that the formula for a successful diving system FMECA is the same for other equipment such as ROV, Ships, Cranes etc. Making the document readable, live and above all useful is the aim of the process and subsequently the aim of this course. 

In providing a detailed understanding of the FMECA structure and the methodology of conducting the process, it is aimed at enabling course candidates to consider their role in the team or organisational structure involved in the creation of a FMECA report.

COURSE OBJECTIVES

The process necessitates a review of a suite of IMCA documents created for this process but also of a series of documents that work with IMCA DESIGN suit.
  • To enable course delegates to understand the methodology, protocols, scope, complexity and expectations required in the FMECA process along with its place in the assurance tools process.

ENTRY REQUIREMENTS

Dive System Assurance delegates should be involved in the commercial diving industry and have a comprehensive understanding of diving procedures, diving systems (Air, Mixed Gas, SCUBA replacement and Saturation) and safety requirements within their organisation. (Note: It is recommended that a formal auditing course such as OHSAS or ISO have been completed prior to attending this course.)

There are a number of interested parties that would benefit from attendance of this FMECA awareness course. From the procurement of goods and services to the practitioners, engineers, supervisors etc. the course covers a technical field but is focused on the process rather than the individual ability to perform technical tasks and for this reason, the conceptual understanding can be widely understood.

ASSESSMENT & CERTIFICATION

Delegates who have successfully completed and passed the multiple choice test / assessment will be awarded with KBA Europe certificate of training “Combined - Diving System Assurance and FMECA Awareness Training".
